It doesn't take special skills to mentor a child --
just a willingness to listen, offer encouragement
and share what you've learned about life.

    ACTION ALERT
Please Help Us Call Governor Rell's Office

    Governor Rell’s telephone number:

    1-800-406-1527

I believe that if we can help Governor Rell understand the fiscal impact on the State of removing the “Covenant to Care” line item from the DCF budget (page 35 of Rell’s proposal) that she will reevaluate her decision and reinstate “Covenant to Care” as negotiations move forward.

Please call The Governor’s office at the above number and remind them that the independent study done at St Joseph’s college showed that Covenant to Care for Children’s efforts save the state of Connecticut approximately $39,000,000.00 every year through preventative and reunification measures. That for every dollar spent Covenant to Care for Children returns $6.80 in goods and services to the children of Connecticut that might otherwise need to be purchased directly by the State’s DCF.  It does not make fiscal sense to remove a $166,000.00 line item at the annual cost to the state of $39,000,000.00.

Please forward this request and take action as soon as possible.

    Thank you.

    About Us

Covenant to Care for Children is a nonprofit, private agency working with faith communities to meet the needs of abused, neglected, and impoverished children and teens. Through a network of volunteers, individual donors, and businesses, we work to foster caring and nurturing environments for children and youth.

Our main initiative, Adopt A Social Worker, matches social workers with faith communities to assist in providing the basic goods to meet the material needs of children. Last year, an estimated 27,850 children in Connecticut received basic necessities through the Adopt A Social Worker program. With the help of more than 200 faith communities and over 1,000 volunteers and donors we have served more than 500,000 children since the agency was founded in 1987.
