 A New Pair of Boots

By Megan Cardinal

It is too often in life that we are so busy with out own lives that we miss the opportunity to create a miracle.  How can one person create a miracle you may ask?  Isn’t a miracle something huge and breath taking?  Yes it is, but everyone is capable of being part of one even if you don’t know it.

A couple years ago when I first began my position as Regional Coordinator with Covenant to Care for Children I saw one person make a miracle for another.  A social worker from one of my regions gave me a call and said she was having trouble with a client of hers.  She felt that the woman was a good mom but too often there was not enough food in the house and the children often missed school during the winter.  The mother would also miss many appointments four counseling and with DCF.  It was discovered  that this mother did not have a car or public transportation close to her house so she would have to walk to the store, doctor’s appointments, ect.  It was also found that the mom only had one pair of shoes for herself…flip flops.  So when she needed to go grocery shopping or to an appointment she would have to walk 2 plus miles in flip flops in snow and rain and sleet, and she did until she could no longer take the pain of frost bite.

A local church affiliated with Covenant to Care for Children heard about this and donated a brand new pair of boots.  With these boots mom was able to provide food for her children and get to all of her appointments on time and eventually regained custody of her children.

That pair of boots was this mother’s miracle.  The boots brought her family back together and enabled her to care and provide for them.  Don’t miss you opportunity to bring a miracle to a family during these cold winter months.  Please donate, hats, mitten, scarves, coats and boots to keep families warm and together.  And in the process your heart will be warmed as well.

For information on donating and drop off locations near you please call Covenant to Care.
