The Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut helps furnish the homes of children in need

Foundation grants $2,000 to Covenant to Care for Children for the purchase of beds for poor and neglected children in northwest Connecticut.

Covenant to Care for Children is pleased to announce that the Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut has provided a $2,000 grant to support CCC’s Critical Goods Program. The Critical Goods Program distributes donated furniture, and clothing, to needy Connecticut families in order to ensure that parents and children can remain together. The Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut has helped to assure the continued success of this program with their donation, which will be used to provide beds to the children of struggling families in Torrington, Litchfield, and surrounding towns.

Covenant to Care for Children’s Critical Goods program relies greatly on the donations of used furniture and clothing from individuals. All of the beds that the program provides are newly purchased. Thus, donations that fund the purchase of these brand-new items are crucial.

Covenant to Care for Children, a statewide nonprofit organization, depends on community organizations for the support of its programs. Since many of Connecticut’s children lack even a place to sleep, the organization is grateful for all the help it receives.

“Covenant to Care for Children is optimistic that, together with the continued support of the community, we will be able to answer the approximately 200 unfilled requests for beds for children across the state.” said Caryl Hallberg, Executive Director of Covenant to Care for Children.

Since 1969, the Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut has managed a collection of charitable funds and has directed those resources toward improving the communities of its 20-town service area. The grant to Covenant to Care for Children was made possible by the John Brooks Fund and the Brooks Bank Fund.

Covenant to Care for Children mobilizes and channels caring and faithful people to advocate for, mentor, and provide direct assistance to Connecticut’s children and youth who are abused, neglected or at-risk.
