NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Contact: Caryl Hallberg,
Executive Director Foundation grants Covenant to Care for Children $4,800 to provide beds for families in need. Going to bed at the end of each day is something that most of us take for granted. Unfortunately, until recently, many children in Bristol were in need of that basic necessity. Charlie Mulholland describes how he repeatedly returned to one Bristol housing complex in order to ensure that all children living there had a bed of their own. Covenant to Care for Children has gladly accepted a $4,800 donation from the Main Street Community Foundation for Covenant to Care’s Critical Goods Program. The program distributes used and new furniture and clothing to struggling families with children across the state, many of which are at risk of separation. The money from the Main Street Community Foundation was used to deliver new beds and bedding to children in Bristol who lack a place to sleep. Charlie Mulholland, Program Coordinator, has been delivering beds to the children of Connecticut for over nine years. In some cases, the Bristol residents recognize the Covenant to Care for Children’s truck and Charlie as he pulls up to an often-visited neighborhood. Though CCC’s Critical Goods Program has been progressing toward the goal that all parents and children have the furniture they need, much work remains to be done. Covenant to Care for Children, a statewide, non-profit organization, is very grateful to organizations such as the Main Street Community Foundation, without whose support it would be impossible to provide crucial care for Connecticut’s at-risk children. Established in 1995, the Main Street Community Foundation uses its permanently endowed funds to assist a wide range of community organizations in the towns it serves. The Foundation operates in the towns of Burlington, Plainville, Bristol, Southington, Plymouth, and Wolcott. This specific grant was made possible by donations from the Ciccarelli-Vitale Community Advancement Fund, the Schumann Special Interest Fund, and the Edward W. & Audrey K. Mink Fund. Covenant to Care for Children mobilizes and channels caring and faithful people to advocate for, mentor, and provide direct assistance to Connecticut’s children and youth who are abused, neglected or at-risk. For more information or to make a donation, please visit www.covenanttocare.org or call the main office at 860-243-1806.
