"It's About Momentum. . ."
January 29, 2009

From the Executive Director

This is what Charlie, our Critical Goods Coordinator and truck driver, told me as we drove from Hartford to Bridgeport during the first big winter storm this year. When traveling on snow or ice your momentum carries you forward in a straight line. Sudden changes are where the real problems lie.

Our economy right now is like traveling through that storm, slippery with little visibility of what might be ahead and a number of people traveling on the same path that do not know what they are doing. It may be white knuckle time but that doesn’t mean we won’t arrive safely. We just need to maintain our momentum and make no sudden changes.

We have slowed down, our revenues are down about 25% for the year, but we have momentum. We are adding new friends for Covenant to Care for Children (CCC), getting some good press, building relationships. We are taking the time to let people know we are here to stay and we are serving the children of Connecticut even as the need grows to epic proportions.

Our goals have been simplified this year:

  • We will say “yes” to every child that comes to us through our social worker system;
  • We will support one another, staff and volunteers, as we support the children we serve;
  • We need to maintain our momentum by making a success of the upcoming Faith and Family Night with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on January 31, 2009, (and other events this year) by purchasing tickets and getting sponsorships.

If you do not want to go to the game and concert you can purchase tickets and donate them back for use by our children in the Bridgeport area who couldn’t otherwise attend an event like this. We need to raise an additional $7000.00 very quickly to meet our current objectives.

I think we can do it with a little help from our friends. As individuals, we can all give just a tiny bit more (say $25.00, $250.00, or $2500.00 depending on your individual circumstances based on that 25% drop in revenues I mentioned above), share information about CCC with friends and coworkers, and suggest a small sponsorship or partnership between CCC and the company for whom
you work.

Please help us maintain and build our momentum.
