Minute Ministries - Covenant to Care for Children

   Covenant to Care Minute Ministry             Roberta Anderson

Roberta Anderson is 93 years old. Every month, like clockwork, we receive a small check and a short written prayer from Roberta. Everyone in the CCC office looks forward to Roberta’s envelope showing up in the mail at the first of the month. Roberta tells me that writing prayer is one of her ministries that she is still able to do. We, at CCC, are very glad for this written ministry. It does not matter what else is going on or how our challenges loom, Roberta brings us monthly energy that moves us on our way, empowering our actions for the children we serve.

When I slide my letter opener down the envelope it is not the check inside that drives the tiny happy flutter in my chest, it is the knowledge that on the page wrapping the check is a thoughtful meditation, an offering just for us – to bring us strength and forgiveness, to remind us why we are doing this work and keeping a promise of acknowledgement and appreciation.

With Roberta’s permission, we have decided to spread her ministry for her using our website. Perhaps her minute ministry of written prayer will touch you the way it has touched us. In our opinion one cannot have too much Roberta, and her wonderful spirit should be shared.

July 2010

Lord, let me be a light to chase away the shadows of fear, a candle in the window to welcome the lost, a shoulder to cry on, and arms to enfold.

June 2010

The kingdom of heaven is like yeast. Not pie in the sky, but bread in the oven, light, beautiful, nourishing, warm. Let us enjoy it.

May 2010

Dear Lord, Into the pain of the tortured breathe stillness;
into the misery of displacement breathe comfort;
into the hunger of the poor breathe fullness;
into the death of the innocent breathe life;
into the pain of widows and orphans breathe hope.

April 2010

For those who cannot speak for themselves,
Help us give voice.
For those who hunger,
Send us to nourish.
For those who despair,
Give them wings of hope.

March 2010

Nothing worth doing is completed in our lifetime;
Therefore we are saved by hope.
Nothing true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history;
Therefore we are saved by faith.
Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone;
Therefore we are saved by love.

February 2010

I will do more than
Belong – I will participate
Believe – I will practice
Forgive – I will forget
Teach – I will listen
Be Fair – I will be kind
Dream – I will work
Earn – I will enrich
Give – I will serve.

January 2010

May G_d bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer so you will reach out your hands to comfort them and change their pain into joy.

December 2009

It is in the quiet of our minds and hearts that the gift of G_d’s love for us is received. Slowly and happily we come to experience the joy and wonder that is Christmas.

November 2009

O G_d of abundance, you feed us everyday. Rise in us now, make us into your bread, that we may share your gifts with a hungry world.

October 2009

Healing Christ, you walk the world with those who suffer.
We come to you with their wounds. Encircle those for whom we pray. Enter their bodies, minds, and spirits and heal them of all that harms.

September 2009

O G_d of Abundance, you feed us every day. Rise in us now, make us into your bread, that we may share your gifts with a hungry world.

August 2009

Now, into the keeping of G_d I put:
All doings of today,
All disappointment,
Hinderances
Forgotten things
Negligence
All gladness and beauty,
Love
Delight
Achievement
All that people have done for me,
All that I have done for them,
My work, my prayers.
And I commit all the people, whom I love,
To G_d’s shepherding
To G_d’s healing and restoring
To G_d’s calling and making.

July 2009

We thank G_d for the equations of life;
Joy and pain,
Work and recreation,
Sun and rain,
Victory and defeat,
That having experienced the one,
We may understand the other.

June 2009

Dear G_d we give thanks for places of simplicity and peace. WE give thanks for places of refuge and beauty, where all may find acceptance and belonging.

May 2009

Praise to you my risen Lord, who keeps meeting me in the garden of my life, who keeps on calling my name, allowing me to feel loved, blessed and cherished.

April 2009

Let our friendships be strong, Lord, that they become a blessing to others;
Let our friendships be open, Lord, that they may be haven for others;
Let our friendships be gentle, Lord, that they may bring peace to others.

March 2009

Dear G_d, in the course of this busy life, give us times of refreshment and peace, and grant that we may so use our leisure to build our bodies and renew our minds, that our spirits may be opened to he goodness of your creation.
